The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International

Curtin has accumulated considerable expertise and developed a sophisticated approach to managing its international activities. This is reflected in the integrated nature of our internationalisation strategies. Nevertheless, Curtin is cognisant of the need to embrace the challenges of operating within this market and is committed to a rigorous cycle of improvement and quality assurance that will enhance our reputation for teaching, research and community service.

Key aspects of making Curtin an international university include:

  • a significant number and broad mix of students from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • a significant Curtin presence in overseas locations
  • an international perspective for students involving:
    • curriculum that is internationally relevant
    • learning and engagement with students from other nationalities and cultures
    • opportunities for students to undertake study at one of Curtin’s international partner universities
    • academic activities that are conducted internationally.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International is responsible for the University-wide leadership, support and coordination of Curtin's international activities, including policy formulation and monitoring, quality assurance, international marketing and student recruitment, institutional partnerships and internationalisation of the curriculum.

About the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International – Professor Kevin McKenna

Professor Kevin McKenna

Professor McKenna has had many years experience in international education, initially focussing on Curtin Business School offshore operations in Asia when he was the CBS Director, Planning & Quality and Executive Dean. He then spent five years as Pro Vice-Chancellor Curtin Sarawak, where he was responsible for the initiation and development of Curtin’s campus in Miri, Malaysia.

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International, Professor Kevin McKenna has overall responsibility for the University’s 17,000 international students, approximately half of whom are on campus, and half off-shore with various partner institutions.
